How To Recycling Heat With Electric Dryer
Posted by admin in Tumble Dryer Spares & Repairs News on November 26th, 2009
Taking into account that the cost of electricity rises more and more often, consumers are trying to find original ways in order to get the most benefit out of their appliances. Such is the electric dryer.
Even though the intake cannot be taken down, there is a gimmick to benefit from the heat that it makes. This device is a dryer heat recycler. It has proven the top-qualityfighting against wasting overmuch energy.
A heat recycler does exactly what its name indicates. It redirects the hot air which comes from the house electric clothes dryer back into the washing room. If your washing room is in a cold basement this is a supplemental bonus and the heat is free.
It is so simple to explain how the recycler operates. It applies the hot air from the electric dryer to heat the laundry room which implies that there is no need the room vent is open. Consequently, this lowers your heating prices. Thus, the air which you commonly dumps outside could be redirected into your home, and all this for the price not greater than $15. This is done by the plastic handle. During winter the handle is adjusted to direct the hot air into your home while during summer the air is directed back outside.
The heat recycler installation is accomplished very easy. Commonly, it is mounted to a wall after which it can be cut and attached again to the appliance, or beam behind, and slightly above the electric dryer console area. Make sure you place it on easily available locations; otherwise, nobody is going to clean the filter. Follow the instructions to keep appropriate airflow direction.
Before you make a decision to purchase it, ensure the model you have opted for is equipped with two venting clamps. It may occur that some inexpensive models don’t take the clamps, what is an important matter for a suitable installation. Do not attach the venting sections to the recycler with duct tape because it may dry out and cause the venting to fall off.
There is a built-in filter screen in the recycler that has to be cleaned in the same way like the one within the electric dryer. We prefer the type that has a mesh screen filter contrary to the one with a sock-like filter. It is just two dollars more, but the metal filter can be used more times and it is a great deal less complicated to clean than the cotton type.
After you have mounted the recycler let it run to test it. Let the temperature selector is adjusted to hot and start dryer. Let it work a few minutes. Test whether the air comes inside when the handle is in the winter mode, and then switch the handle to summer mode. Get outside and check that air is freely released outdoors. If nothing happens, it may be as the screen in the outdoor vent is blocked with lint, or because the vent cap flapper valve can be sticking. In that case, try all joints for air leakage. If there is a leak, tape joints with duct tape.

You are next required to clean the heat recycler filter every few laundry loads. Moreover, turn the handle so as to change the direction of the air flow twice per year. As you have already noticed, I am using the term electrical clothes dryer. It is not possible to utilize the heat recycler with a gas clothes dryer. The venting pipe of a gas dryer should not be opened or redirected. There can be small quantity of gas vapour in the electric outlet air of a gas clothes dryer. Hence, keep always in mind that the heat recycler cannot be used with a gas dryer.
Can You Save Energy With Electric Clothes Dryer?

Every user likes to use the appliance that functions well and keeps energy simultaneously. It is good for the surroundings and your budget, too. One of these appliances is the electric clothes dryer and here we give you a few great tips of how to save electricity when utilizing it:
It is really crucial to clean the dryer lint filter after each load, as this is definitely a good way to save energy. Although there is a small amount of lint on the filter, it can limit the airflow, making the dryer operate longer.
If your dryer contains an Auto Cycle, make sure to use it the right wa. The auto cycle recompenses for the size and type of material that is being dried. The drying time will be set to make sure the clothes come out dry in the least amount of time. There is no doubt that energy will be saved that way.
You are suggesteed to clean the electric clothes dryer venting once a year. Lower the venting and clean out any lint collected. As Well, there might be some lint picked up in the venting cap, so make sure you clean that, too. Any venting limitation will slow down airflow, which, therefore, slows moisture removal from clothes, and increases the time required for the clothes to become dry.
If there are too many anti static sheets in the electric dryer at one time they can block the lint filter. This may limit flow of air and cause the dryer to overwork and operate too much time. Thus, remove the old ones and then add new ones.
Take into consideration a front loader when time comes to replace the washer. They need a high speed to spin, which takes awaymuch more moisture than the top load style. Therefore, your clothes will dry out more rapidly. The frequent time for drying of 60 minutes falls to 30 minutes when a front load washer is used.
If after every load a huge quantity of lint is found at the door seal, then should replace it with a new door seal. You could check that by having the dryer work filled with clothes to the top. Air and heat may come past the seal and you could check that with your hand around the closed door area. If there is any air stream, the door seal should be changed.
After some time, the housing which holds lint filter may be covered with old lint. This restrains flow of air and wastes energy. In that case remove filter (first switch off dryer from electricity, or turn off breakers), and and clean lint buildup with a vacuum cleaner or narrow brush.
If it occurs that your electricity provider charges less occasionaly throughout the day, take into consideration letting your dryer operate during more cheaper periods of time. Most corporations charge lower rates after 8:00 pm. You may certainly save energy, if your clothes dryer runs after this time of night. Nonetheless, just to be on the safe side, you mustn’t operate the dryer, if you have left the house or you are asleep.
All clothes dryers begin their life as very economic. But, in due course of time their efficiency drops off drastically. In order to make it last longer, these machines should have some elementary maintenance. Therefore, if the clothes come out moist, or the machine becomes too noisy, call an expert. In Fact, you may best keep energy by adopting the previously mentioned tips, and check that there is the least lint as possible.
Fixing A Broken Clothes Dryer
Posted by admin in Tumble Dryer Spares & Repairs News on November 11th, 2009
It is certain that clothes dryers are one of the most practical electrical twists which have ever been designed. It is a right option for those people who live in upper level apartment buildings and cannot just hang their clothes outside on a line. Still, after after time goes by the clothes dryer will begin to have problems, when you will have to a little knowledge of how to deal with it.
First of all, if your clothes dryer still has a guarantee, you should not take any risk in making attempts to repair it by yourself. You need to get through the company that will send a service man to came in and check the dryer out. Almost all warranties state that if you make effort to work the clothes dryer on your own you may null the warranty. Hence, if you open the top or the back, you may end up having to pay for all the parts. On condition that your clothes dryer warranty has expired, you could fix it by yourself. Most of it is simple.
If your clothes take more time to dry than normally, the reasons may be diverse. Fortunately, you did not discard your possessor’s manual, because this is one of the most important booklets which you could ever get about the problems that occasionally encounters with your clothes dryer. Firstly, make sure that the lint filter is cleaned regularly at least once in week.
If nothing is wrong with the filter, the next thing to check is your vent tube. It might happen that it has been stopped by something so it will be necessary to clean it out. In that case you have to unplug the dryer and put it away from the wall, so that you could hold it from the back. The hose (tub) will only let you move the electric clothes dryer for a short distance. So, with a pair of channel locks, if it utilizes a clinch of that time to hold the hose onto the base, it might need a screwdriver, or a pair of pliers to let the hose. When the hose is up, you may look down into it as far as you could, or you may wag it to check if there may be some rubbish somewhere in the hose itself.
If that is not the case, consultcheck the owner’s manual on what you are supposed to do next. It is really simple to take the back off the clothes dryer but, be extremely alert with the sharp edges on the cross plates which, although dull, can cut you sometimes really seriously. When you see the heating unit, you will discover that you will have to unplug some wires. If this is the case it is really crucial to check which wires to put in which place, as otherwise you may cause an electrical fire. On the inside of the plate you will note some screws or nuts which have been tightened down. It could be tough to release them so that they will turn easy; yet, once the unit is detached you must take it to the suitable facility.
And this is the end. There are many other items, like the belt and the motor, but there isn’t enough space in this article to dig into those fields. Nevertheless, it is recommended that you find out as much as you may about how to fix your clothes dryer.

The advantages of a tumble dryer are that your clothes are ready to wear again in the minium time after washing
The draw back however is the cost and that dryer machines may cause clothes to shrink, become less soft (due to loss of short soft fibers/ lint) and fade.
Safety in tumble dryers
Remember that drying your clothes in a tumble dryer expose flammable materials to heat.
Clean the filter after every cycle for safety and energy efficiency.
Provide adequate ventilation around the dryer.
Do not place any rubber, foam and plastic items in the dryer — or anything that has had a flammable substance spilled on it.
Either D I Y or have your dryer and vent duct cleaned professionally at a minimum of every two years.
Dryer Balls

The pink and blue dryerballs mechanical softeners have different tensile strengths and different shaped softening nodes. They work together in the tumble dryer to mechanically to soften fabrics without the harmful chemicals found in fabric softener and dryer sheets. The dryerballs lift and separate the laundry whilst drying, thus reducing drying time and creasing. The dryerballs softeners also retain the heat and transfer it to the clothes as they tumble, further speeding up the drying process.
There is no need to add a chemically laden “softening” dryer sheet or use fabric softener in your wash. Place both dryerballs softeners in the tumble dryer and operate the machine at the usual heatsetting for the fabrics. dryerballs mechanical softeners are re-usable just leave them
in the tumble dryer to get the benefits time and time again!

Whirlpool tumble dryer filter has a hole in it.
Engineers repair comments.
I opened the tumble dryer door, removed and then replaced the Whirlpool tumble dryer filter. The mesh on the old fluff filter was split and damaged which allowed fluff and dust particals to be drawn through the tumble dryer and on the clothes instead of catching it in the Whirlpool tumble dryer filter.
Hotpoint Tumble Dryer Belt

Hotpoint tumble dryer drive belts.
Hotpoint have changed the design of all the tumble dryer drive belts, they used to have a tension pulley system ( see image on right ) but there are no tension pulley systems any longer, Hotpoint in their wisdom have decided to change all their tumble dryer belts now using a fixed elasticated drive belt. In our opinion this is a big step backwards for Hotpoint as on this new fixed belt system there is a lot of stress on the rear bearing, drum and drum shaft, drive belt, front drum bearings & both drum felts. We replace a lot of belts because of this. If you are changing a Hotpoint tumble dryer drive belt you will find it very difficult if not impossible to stretch the drive belt over the drum & motor shaft, it is possible but as i say very very difficult, i try to loosen the motor screw from the base of the Hotpoint tumble dryer then stretch it using a special tool over the Hotpoint tumble dryer motor. Good luck.

On vistiting the Hotpoint TC71 dryer i had to determine if the Hotpoint tumble dryer needed spares or spare parts. I set the cycle running, the machine started all seemed fine so i let it run for 2 mins then opened the hotpoint tumble dryer door to see if it was hot, But the temperature inside the tumble dryer drum was cold. i unpluged the Hotpoint tumble dryer then using my multi meter i tested the heater heating element, that tested ok, i then tested the two thermostats on top of the heating element casing, one of them had no circuit through it, i had found the problem. i removed the old thermostats and replaced them with a new Hotpoint tumble dryer thermostat kit 1701583 ( shown in image ) tested the tumble dryer and all tested ok, problem solved.
Tumble Dryer Heater Element
Posted by admin in Tumble Dryer Spares & Repairs News on May 9th, 2009
One of the most common faults with tumble dryers are:
No Heat
This is normally due to failure of the heating element/s or thermostat/s with the thermostats being the more prone to failure
Cause’s of the above to fail more frequently are failure to clean filters on a regular basis, overloading with clothing ie: causing
poor air flow through the dryer and blocked (if you have it vented through the wall check the outside vent cover also) or kinked vent hoses which again causes poor air flow
Also note that vent hoses should not be to long the maxium should be about 8 to 9 feet as once these become to long the steam vapour produced from the drying will condense back to water before it gets to the end of the hose and can then run back into the dryer causing problems

Service Call out to Hotpoint
tumble dryer model CTDOOP not heating
Diagnose On testing tumble dryer found that drum was turning but no heat was being produced and that air flow though dryer was very poor
Repair Checked the supply voltage to the heater and thermostats which was ok, tested the continuity of the heater and thermostats and found that one thermostat was o/c (open circuit) fitted new thermostat kit (its advisable to replace the thermostats as pair), also checked the filter and found this to be in need of cleaning which can be a cause of thermostat or heater failure
Test Re-assemble dryer and check with a smal load of clothing in, heating and tumbling ok with a good air flow
