The way that fan ovens work is air is forced by the fan motor across the heating element and method of cooking means that the oven temperature is more stable and more accurate. In practice this is true and the temperature is far more even and stable as well as allowing the cooking of different food at the same time without the transfer of odours or flavours. The oven fan motor is in essence an electric coil driving a magnetic stator which very rarely fails but it's not quite that simple because in a number cases due to the ingress of grease and cooking fat the fan motor can start to run slowly, the friction created by a build up of this deposit causing a reduction in the motor speed which then can cause hotspots on the oven element with the result that failure of your fan oven element occurs. It a good idea to check that the fan motor blades turn freely before replacing the oven element or you may end replacing this again very soon
